MARGARET REBECCA (PEGGY) SONNER



MARGARET REBECCA SONNER was the third child of Johan Philip and Elizabeth Sonner. She was born about 1764 near Strasburg, Virginia Shenandoah County. Elizabeth (Peggy) married May 30, 1786, by Simmon Haar, Joseph Conrad in Shenandoah County Virginia1.  Joseph and Peggy owned in Strasburg, one half of outlott numbered 21. On September 3, 1831, Jacob Sonner Sr. bought this property for the heirs of Joseph. Apparently Margaret was deceased by this time in as much as she was not mentioned in this deed. Joseph Conrad and Jacob Sonner Sr. had earlier purchased the entire five acres of lot numbered 21 from the heirs of Simmon Haar. This property is located on Long Street or present day Washington Street. It is about 1000 feet East of Massanutten Street on the North side2.

Rebecca was baptized October 19, 1806 St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg, Virginia. A deed dated 1831 notes that Thomas and Rebecca then lived in Frederick County, Virginia. The name Laughead may have been changed to Lawhead.

Both are buried at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg, VA.. Isaac was buried 27 January 1867. Isaac was a Confederate soldier. Mary A. Hurn lived at Strasburg 1870. Isaac and Mary deeded their interest in John Dosh's lot 44 and 21 with house to Samuel H. Sonner April 21, 1851 to settle their father's estate. Isaac and Mary had eight children.  This house is located on Washington Street across from the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Married by the Rev. R. A. Finks. Mary is buried at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Strasburg. Levi is thought to be buried there also. Levi's parents were Jacob B. Keller and Rebecca Coffman.

David D. Hoshour (Hounshour) M-2 b. 1824
Marriage conducted by Rev. James Willis at Strasburg, VA. The groom was 55 widowed, bricklayer born in Shenandoah County and residing in Warren County the son of Peter and Elizabeth Hoshour. Ella died at Front Royal. Ella and David are buried in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Front Royal, Virginia. David was a member of the 18th Virginia Cavalry. He enlisted in Company D February 1864 at Woodstock. He was wounded in an accident in October of 1864. David Dinges Hoshour was first married to Rebecca J. Clower b. 1824 d. 1870. Rebecca is buried in the St. Paul's Reformed Church Cemetery, Woodstock.

John was a Corporal in the 23rd Confederate Cavalry. John and Rebecca deeded their interest in John Dosh's lot 44 and 21 with house to Samuel H. Sonner April 21, 1851 to settle their father's estate.

Sarah died at Washington, DC. Sarah was baptized at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Strasburg January 10, 1849.

Census list a Peter Darr in Frederick County, 1850. Margaret died at Oranda. Peter Darr was listed as a carpenter in the 1860 Frederick County Census. Peter was born in Pennsylvania. Margaret was baptized 26 September 1824 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Strasburg. Margaret and Peter deeded their interest in John Dosh's lot 44 and 21 with house to Samuel H. Sonner April 21, 1851 to settle their father's estate.

This is the same land where upon Samuel H. Sonner operated his store, Hotel and pottery business and resided with his wife Catharine.   Samuel Sonner also purchased the Bell Pottery which was located at the corner of Fort (Depot) and High Street.  This pottery was located on the north west corner of this intersection.  The property was purchased from Leonard Balthis, Bell's father in law, who own the property.  Bell then moved his pottery to the south west corner of Queen and Fort (Depot) streets, to another parcel owned by Leonard Batlthis.
